Welcome to Port Discover!

Kids are the Scientists at Port Discover! Located in the middle of beautiful downtown Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Port Discover is fun-filled, hands-on science center for the kid in all of us!

Upcoming Events:

• Afterschool Science : Embryology - Mason 4-H
Date & Time: May 24, 3:00 pm
Admission: FREE
See what’s in Port Discover’s incubator. Take a close-up look at chicken eggs as they begin to develop into little baby chicks. Mason Lawrence with the NC Cooperative Extension will teach the basics of embryology.
Sponsored by City of Elizabeth City.

• 1st Friday ArtWalk
Date & Time: June 1, 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm
Admission: FREE
Come see our guest artists and check out our exhibits.
Parents or guardians must accompany the child.

• Science of Beer: Summer Brew-Balloo!
Date, Time & Location: June 7, 6:30 pm, at Montero’s Restaurant
Admission: $30 per person, tickets are available at Montero’s, Port Discover, or Click here to purchase them online
Grown-ups learn about the science of the new summer brews. Local “celebrity” servers compete for the most tips.

• Second Saturday Science : What’s Buzzing at Port Discover?
Date & Time: June 9, 11:00 am
Admission: FREE
Reservations are required.
Learn about swarm collections, hive rescues and how beekeepers collect yummy honey with Dave Lacasse with Beekeepers of the Albemarle!

• Sprouting Scientists and Hands-On Historians
A Summer Camp with Port Discover and Museum of the Albemarle
Date & Time: June 18 - 22, 8:30 am - 12:00 pm
Admission: $100 per child ($90 for members of Port Discover or Friends of the Museum). Registration increases to $110 after June 1.
Reservations are required.
Children discover science and history in their own backyards! Two camps available: 5 to 8-year-olds (children must have completed Kindergarten); and 9 to 12-year olds. [For more information, click here.]

• Toddler Time : Bubble-ology
Date & Time: June 28, 10:00 am
Admission: $5 per child
Reservations are required.
This program is just for preschoolers, ages 3 – 5.
Explore the science of bubbles and take a splash in our bubble bath!
Parents or guardians must accompany the child.
June’s Toddler Time is one week later, due to Port Discover’s Summer Camp
